About the Faculty

The Faculty of Energy and Environmental Engineering (FIŚE) was established in 1993 after the Faculty of Environmental Engineering was merged with the Faculty of Energy and Mechanical Engineering.

The Faculty Council has full academic rights in three disciplines:

  • Environmental Engineering
  • Machine Design and Operation
  • Power Engineering

We educate students in:

  • Environmental Engineering
  • Power Engineering
  • Machine Mechanics and Design
  • Safety Engineering
  • Biotechnology

As of 2017/2018 we are the first to offer education in:

  • Environmental Monitoring and Management

We are also planning studies in Circular Economy.

Our studies are run in compliance with the ECTS standard at three levels:

  • Graduate studies (Master's degree: magister)
  • Doctoral studies (PhD degree: doktor nauk)

The academic staff take an active part in collaboration with foreign scientific centres and under the EU Commission framework programmes. The units of our Faculty co-ordinate several European research programmes. The Faculty employees are members of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Central Committee for Academic Degrees and Titles. They sit on a number of the PAS committees and they are board members of many European scientific organizations.

EIT InnoEnergy

Silesian University of Technology is as a strategic partner for the Knowledge and Innovation Community EIT Innoenergy. Together with Instituto Superior Tecnico (IST) and Akademia Górniczo Hutnicza (AGH) we are partners in the MSc Clean Fossil and Alternative Fuels Energy programme that explores ways of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels and enabling integration with cleaner, sustainable alternatives.
Knowledge and Innovation Communities are innovative “webs of excellence”: highly integrated partnerships that bring together education, technology, research, business and entrepreneurship  in order to build a critical mass to position Europe as a world leader in the knowledge triangle (education, research and innovation) and its transfer to business and society.

The mission of EIT Innoenergy is carried out through  3 lines of activity, in the area of Energy:

  • Excellence in Education through  the award of Master and PhD academic degrees bearing an “EIT label”.
  • Promoting Research and Innovationbuilding a critical mass, in order to position Europe as a world leader in the knowledge-sharing and transfer into new business opportunities.
  • Stimulating Entrepreneurship, with actions of support to innovative ideas positioned closed to market, through the acceleration program Highway.

“The EIT Label is a quality seal awarded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) to a KIC educational programme that has been assessed positively by the EIT on the implementation of the EIT Quality Assurance and Learning Enhancement (EIT QALE) system and the application of specific quality criteria with focus on the EIT Overarching Learning Outcomes (EIT OLOs), robust entrepreneurship education, highly integrated, innovative ‘learning‐by‐doing’ curricula, international mobility and outreach.”
